New Sustainable Underground Therapy Studio

We had previously worked on this beautiful property in the upper reaches of the Silvermine mountain area in collaboration with Lulu Maison Interiors, but this brief called for a working studio on the front lawn, as long as it did not impede the views from the main house.
There are many reasons to build underground. These buildings do in fact withstand changing weather conditions more ably than conventional construction techniques and can perform significantly better than above ground structures-
  • Rainwater is absorbed and purified rather than discharged directly to the storm water system
  • The surrounding air quality is improved through the passive air purification by the plants
  • The roof is exceptionally well insulated and has a double to triple improvement in lifespan
  • The building supports biodiversity gain and offers ‘additional’ landscape for flora & fauna
  • There is a measurable energy conservation quantum as well as financial benefit over time
  • Underground buildings offer a lesser nett environmental impact
But another real benefit experienced by the clients is the nestled sense of the workshop environment felt by all who attend events there.  This experience is felt intuitively by participants, rather than intellectually – it offers a settled emotional environment for people to feel ‘grounded’.
